Small Town Boy in the Big City
I had an adeventure this weekend. I went over to Van City to Visit my friend Katrina who is going to UBC and living in East Van. I was incredibly strange for me to go to Vancouver by myself, it wasn't something i had done before and the differences between Victoria and Van are really pretty staggering. There are so many people there and the sprawl of the city is so huge. Just on broadway there are resturants from about 30 different countries and people from way more then that. you get a strange feeling like you don't need to sleep in the city too, its so far removed from nature that it feels incredibly artificial. Victoria feels like a fantasy land when you leave it, its so peaceful and idylic. I went to the Mountain equipment co-op and was pretty amazed by the size of the store, pretty neat. also i got drunk and played some connect four and poker which was lots of fun. Then i got hung over and lazed around all day in Katrinas aparetment which was fun because it was really slanted (each room was slanted in a different direction as well) so you could roll around on her computer chair. Then on my way home the 7 o'clock ferry was an hour late(fucking Queen of Esquimalt! theat thing is a pile of shit!) and it was snowing like a mother fucker so I was worried about getting my little car home from swartz bay. when i got there there was about 5 inches of snow and it was super slick so i drove about 40km/h most of the way home, i got up to about 80 a few times and at the tintersection by the airport i changed lanes and just kept going left into the oncoming lane almost right past the median on the other side of the intersection. so that was exciting! but i pulled back in in time and made it home safe. fun times! feels good to be home in our little town with little twon situations and not much to worry aobut, it was a good adventure. peace.
